The Multi Engine Piston (MEP) rating foresees a final flight (skill test) with a CRE examiner, during which you will have to prove you can manage routine flight procedures and emergency conditions on a multi-engine aircraft (e.g. one engine out) using all instruments on board to receive radio assistance

The rating is valid for 1 year. The expiry date is indicated on your flight licence. Urbe Aero ATO can renew your rating under the following conditions:

  • Within the expiry date (REVALIDATION):
    • revalidation is made on a twin-engine aircraft through a Proficiency Check made with a Class Rating Examiner (CRE), as far as all the following requirements have been verified:
      • In the 12 months before revalidation, the pilot has made at least 10 flights on the aircraft (or one flight on the aircraft or simulator monitored by an examiner);
      • In case of IR revalidation, this can be made at the same time via other Proficiency Check on the class of aircraft subject of the revalidation;
  • After 3 months from the expiry date (RENEWAL), you will need to undergo a Proficiency Check with a Class Rating Examiner (CRE);
  • Between 3 months and 1 year from the expiry date, you will undergo a theory refresh and at least 1 flight hour with a Class Rating Instructor (CRI) and a Proficiency Check with a Class Rating Examiner (CRE);
  • Between 1 and 3 years from the expiry date, you will undergo a theory refresh and at least 2 flight hours with a Class Rating Instructor (CRI) and a Proficiency Check with a Class Rating Examiner (CRE);
  • After 3 years from the expiry date, you will undergo a theory refresh and at least 3 flight hours with a Class Rating Instructor (CRI) and a Proficiency Check with a Class Rating Examiner (CRE);

Notwithstanding the aforementioned conditions, due to the complexity of the aircraft, each MEP renewal will be assessed by Urbe Aero ATO’s Head of Training, in compliance with experience, privilege and rating factors on aircraft different from those used by the school.
