Wizz Air Pathway Programme

Urbe Aero Flight Academy and Wizz Air establish an innovative collaboration to train future pilots

Urbe Aero Flight Academy is proud to announce an innovative partnership with Wizz Air, Europe’s fastest growing and most sustainable airline, designed for the selection and training of future commercial pilots with the perspective of professional opportunities upon completion of the training.

This alliance not only represents a tremendous step forward in aviation training, but also positions Urbe Aero as Wizz Air’s partner for Italy, an honor that attests to the excellence and high reputation of the Italian flight academy in Europe.

In an era where the demand for pilots risks outstripping supply, airlines are called upon to seek quick and effective solutions to train new professionals in line with the high standards required by the industry.

The answer to this challenge is the “Wizz Air Pathway Programme,” an exclusive programme born from the collaboration between Urbe Aero and Wizz Air. The programme aims to develop young cadets into highly qualified professionals, equipped with not only deep technical skills but also solid personal characteristics.

Wizz Air will provide the training standards and requirements to be met, while Urbe Aero will leverage its infrastructure, fleet, and extensive experience to design an Integrated ATPL course that, within 18 months, will lead the students to obtaining the airline pilot license and starting an exclusive career.

The “Wizz Air Pathway Programme” includes an aptitude selection at Wizz Air’s headquarters, carried out jointly by Wizz Air and the Urbe Aero Recruitment Team, before enrollment in the flight course. Once they have passed the selection, the trainees with above standard performance will receive the conditional job offer before commencing the Integrated ATPL training course at Urbe Aero Flight Academy. Students entering the programme will need to commit to reach the minimum requirements and successfully complete the course to obtain the license. Subsequently, the airline will begin specific training to enable the new pilots on the Airbus 320 family aircraft, initially as first officers and later as commanders.

The benefits of the agreement are numerous, in addition to the great career opportunity as a Wizz Air pilot in Italian and foreign bases:

  • no previous flying experience is required, although credits are available for PPL license holders;
  • the access requirements are those of the Integrated ATPL (high school degree, minimum age of 18 years and valid EASA class 1 medical certificate);
  • the opportunity for growth in Wizz Air, a company in expansion;
  • the price of the course is “all inclusive”, with no hidden costs:
  • Wizz Air advances payment for the APS MCC and the Type Rating trainings on A320neo.

“We are thrilled to launch this new partnership with Wizz Air, an undisputed leader in the European airline landscape, with whom we have worked intensively to realize this ambitious project”, says Lorenzo Mezzadri, Accountable Manager of Urbe Aero Flight Academy.Our Academy has invested considerable resources to provide a top-level infrastructure, technologies, and fleet, guaranteeing cutting-edge training that responds to the challenges of the current market. Moreover, we have continued to strengthen ties with major airlines to guarantee career opportunities once the license is obtained. This partnership with Wizz Air is no exception, replicating a successful training model already experimented with other airlines, which will allow us to support Wizz Air in the selection and training of highly competent and professional airline pilots.”

Attila Tovari, Wizz Air ATO Head of Training, points out:

“We are pleased to start the partnership with Urbe Aero Flight Academy for recruiting new pilots at an exciting time of continued and unprecedented growth for Wizz Air. The Wizz Air Pathway Programme offers aspiring pilots high quality training and development, industry leading facilities with the support of an experienced flight school and in line with Wizz Air’s training standards to help make their dream of becoming a pilot, a reality. Once successfully graduated, we are delighted to offer the opportunity of a secure job and excellent chances for career growth, a competitive salary, and a compensation and benefits package. We look forward to meeting the next generation of Wizz Air pilots.”

The “Wizz Air Pathway Programme” represents an extraordinary opportunity for aspiring airline pilots, offering a high-level training path, support during the license obtainment, and potential engagement at the end of the training course. With the launch of this innovative programme Urbe Aero Flight Academy confirms its commitment to contribute to the growth and success of the aviation industry.

Another important achievement marks the commitment and passion of our Academy in preparing the careers of our student pilots. Being recognized as a School of Excellence approved by EasyJet represents an important testimony to the advanced training provided by the school, but also a great opportunity, after the Wizz Air Pathway Programme, to quickly start our young pilots on a career after completing their ATPL training.
Wizz Air has announced it’s going to open a new training center in 2024. With a huge investment of 38 million, the company is going to build a new construction of 2500 square meters, near the terminal 1 of Rome Fiumicino. This building will host three flight simulators for the training of 4800 pilots per year.
